Portia Mullins had always lived the life of a normal teenager, up until her sixteenth birthday. She is then informed by her grandma that she is actually a witch who is a descendant from a long line of witches and warlocks. After overcoming her disbelief she finds that being a member of the coven comes with one great perk in the form of the school's handsome bad boy, Vance Mangum. Vance and Portia have an immediate connection as a budding romance begins, only to be threatened by turbulent skies on the horizon as Vance's checkered past rears its ugly head to haunt them. Portia is forced to use her untried powers in defense of everything she loves in a desperate attempt to hold on to the one thing that really matters in her lifeWhat an amazing book! That's all I can seem to think of right now. I was hooked from the instant I started reading it. Lacey did such a great job creating these characters, and even though there were days and events that were skipped, it felt right and kept the story at a pace that kept me interested the whole way through. There were times when I had to physically stop myself from reading and walk away because I needed to go to work or school.
Now hear me out on this next part. It slightly reminds me of Twilight. I know I know, there are a lot of people who don't find that series very interesting, and if you are one of them then you need to pick up this series instead. Portia is a very strong character and she is the polar opposite of Bella, although Portia and Vance's relationship is what really drew the comparison to me.
Portia and Vance's relationship rockets off because of the strong connection they have. They have a bond that no one else has hear of and are able to do things that no other witch or warlock has ever heard of someone else doing. They are completely inseparable and their love for one another pulls at your heart. I absolutely love them together, and when they were apart and Portia felt pain, I felt it too.
Again, this book was such an amazing read. If you like anything dealing with magic, love, or action, then you need to check out this book. I know I'm already planning on when I'm going to get the next one. I cannot wait to see what happens with this series and I'm so happy I joined the Bookish Snobs Promotions and was able to be part of the blog tour for such an amazing book. I hope you all check it out, because it really is a good read.
