In My Mailbox {5}

Sunday, February 13, 2011
So here I am with In My Mailbox 5. This is pretty exciting to me, because it marks the fact that I have been blogging for over a month now. But, this week was a slow book week. I didn't have much time to go to the library or the store, so I stuck with buying things online or getting more netgalleys. Also, starting this week, I'm going to be linking the titles to Goodreads so if you want to add them to your TBR list you can. Here's what I got in my mailbox this week.

For Review

Rage - Jackie Kessler

I heard about this series through Kristi at The Story Siren, and it sounded amazing. I'm hoping you don't have to have read the first one to be able to read this one. But if it turns out that way, I would be more than happy to run out and buy the first one. Here's the Synopsis from Goodreads

"Missy didn’t mean to cut so deep. But after the party where she was humiliated in front of practically everyone in school, who could blame her for wanting some comfort? Sure, most people don’t find comfort in the touch of a razor blade, but Missy always was . . . different. That’s why she was chosen to become one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: War. Now Missy wields a new kind of blade—a big, brutal sword that can cut down anyone and anything in her path. But it’s with this weapon in her hand that Missy learns something that could help her triumph over her own pain: control."

Audiobook

Insatiable - Meg Cabot

Again, I love anything Meg Cabot. She was one of my first favorite authors. This book is actually number one on my TBR list on Goodreads, so I'm pretty excited to read it, well I guess I should say listen to it. So here's the synopsis from Goodreads.

"Sick of vampires? So is Meena Harper. But her boss is making her write about them anyway, even though Meena doesn’t believe in them. Not that Meena isn’t familiar with the supernatural. See, Meena Harper knows how you’re going to die (not that you’re going to believe her; no one ever does). But not even Meena’s precognition can prepare her for what happens when she meets—then makes the mistake of falling in love with—Lucien Antonescu, a modern-day prince with a bit of a dark side . . . a dark side a lot of people, like an ancient society of vampire-hunters, would prefer to see him dead for. The problem is, he already is dead. Maybe that’s why he’s the first guy Meena’s ever met that she could see herself having a future with. See, while Meena’s always been able to see everyone else’s future, she’s never been able look into her own. And while Lucien seems like everything Meena has ever dreamed of in a boyfriend, he might turn out to be more like a nightmare. Now might be a good time for Meena to start learning to predict her own future . . . If she even has one."

Bought

Lucky - Alice Sebold

I really enjoyed The Lovely Bones even though I still have yet to see the movie. I just didn't feel the need to ruin such a good book with the movie, because I heard that it was different, and I know what really happened. But I knew I wanted to read more of her novels, and I saw this one and couldn't pass it up. So here's the synopsis from Goodreads.

"In a memoir hailed for its searing candor and wit, Alice Sebold reveals how her life was utterly transformed when, as an eighteen-year-old college freshman, she was brutally raped and beaten in a park near campus. What propels this chronicle of her recovery is Sebold's indomitable spirit - as she struggles for understanding ("After telling the hard facts to anyone, from lover to friend, I have changed in their eyes"); as her dazed family and friends sometimes bungle their efforts to provide comfort and support; and as, ultimately, she triumphs, managing through grit and coincidence to help secure her attacker's arrest and conviction. In a narrative by turns disturbing, thrilling, and inspiring, Alice Sebold illuminates the experience of trauma victims even as she imparts wisdom profoundly hard-won: "You save yourself or you remain unsaved.""

What did you get in your mailbox this week?

  2. Interesting looking books!

I keep meaning to read Hunger, so when I catch up with that, I'm sure I'll be looking forward to Rage.

I just read my first Meg Cabot book recently and enjoyed it, and I was a fan of The Lovely Bones, too.

    Happy reading!

  5. Lucky was really good. I like Alice Sebold a lot. I still need to pick up a copy of The Almost Moon. The Lucky Bones was a great novel, too, but I haven't seen the movie yet, either. I've heard a lot of great things about it, though!
