In My Mailbox {7}

Sunday, February 27, 2011
So I was able to get to the Library in my town this week so I had a new choice in books. I also got a few requests approved through net galley for review so I've had a pretty busy and exciting week this week, here's my In my Mailbox post.

The Au Pairs - Melissa De La Cruz

So I saw this book and the cover makes me want it to be summer so badly. So I figured why not check it out so I can pretend it's summer! Here's the synopsis from Goodreads.

"Three girls with three agendas and the ultimate destination: the Hamptons.

Summer in the city? Way overrated. Everybody who's anybody in New York City summers in the Hamptons. Mara, Eliza, and Jacqui all want a piece of the action, all for different reasons.

So the girls answer a classified ad to become au pairs. How bad can it be, watching a couple of kids on the beach all day? They've got the swank address, the sweet ride, and an all-access pass to the hottest social scene on the East Coast. It's shaping up to be the summer of their lives."

Sweet 16 - Kate Brian

I absolutely adore Kate Brian and her writing. So seeing this book that I haven't read by her yet made me have to get rent it. Here's the synopsis from Goodreads.

Teagan Phillips's sweet sixteen is the event of the season. Other parties have been chill, sure, but no one at Rosewood Prep throws a bash as extravagant, exclusive, or over-the-top expensive as Teagan. No one is as obnoxious, either. But that doesn't stop everyone from wanting to see and be seen at her birthday.
Luckily, Teagan's in for a rude (and rather ungraceful) awakening. On the big night she falls stilettos-over-tiara into the country club wine cellar and blacks out. When she comes to, there is a strange woman standing at the foot of the stairs.
No, Teagan, this mystery woman is not one of "the help." She is here to take you on a ride, to bring you back through time and show you some very unpretty realities. And if you're lucky, she just might put the sweet back in sixteen...."

Shelf Life - Robert Corbet

I'm semi sure that I've tried to read this book before, but I don't remember if I didn't have time or if it didn't interest me. So I'm giving it another chance and I'm going to try to read it. Here's the synopsis from Goodreads.

"On aisle 1, Louisa's crying.
On aisle 2, Adam's trying to get fired.
On aisle 4, a renegade shopper is releasing the fizz from soda bottles.
At the service counter, an irate customer can't understand why his Long Life Milk went bad after a few years.

Working at the supermarket isn't exactly glamorous, but the teens on the staff have a lot of tasty secrets: like the fact that Adam decides to stick it out a while once he sees the very pretty Employee of the Month. Under the harsh glare of the fluorescent lights, the staff, as different as the products they unpack and arrange, unite against demanding customers and try to amuse each other until punch-out time."

The Rules for Hearts - Sara Ryan

I kind of have this thing for romance novels and when I saw that this was a Young Adult romance novel I couldn't not get it. Here's the synopsis from Goodreads.

"Battle Hall Davies is sure of some things: she-s going to Reed; she loves girls; and her older brother, Nick, is cooler than she could ever be. Nick ran away when Battle was in high school, and four years later, he-s tracked her down. Now she-s spending her summer before college in -Forest House,- the co-op where he lives in Portland. Battle is quickly swept into Forest House-s community Shakespeare production, its all-night card games, and the arms of her new roommate, Meryl. It turns out that Nick isn-t who Battle thought he was-and Battle-s not who she thought she was, either."

For Review

The Goddess Test - Aimee Carter

So I just posted about this book on my Waiting on Wednesday post this past week, and when I went to go check on some of my requests on Net Galley I noticed that this book was up for request. So I couldn't not send in a request, and thankfully it got approved! Here's the synopsis from Goodreads if you didn't see it on WoW.

"Every girl who has taken the test has died.

It's always been just Kate and her mom--and now her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate's going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear her mother won't live past the fall.

Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld--and if she accepts his bargain, he'll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests.

Kate is sure he's crazy--until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she'll become Henry's future bride, and a goddess.

If she fails..."
